ADRO Secures 4M Series A to Drive Innovation in Aerodynamic Technology
SEOUL, South Korea - June 19, 2024 - Aerodynamic Development Race Optimization (ADRO), the leading provider of automotive aerodynamic technology solutions, announced today the successful closure of its Series A round, securing 5.4 billion KRW (approximately 4 million USD). This round was led by K2 Investment Partners with participation from Stonebridge Ventures, SBVA, and Korea Investment & Securities, BonAngels Venture Partners, Bridge Investment, and Strong Ventures.
ADRO specializes in reducing air resistance to enhance automotive efficiency and performance, particularly optimizing range for electric vehicles (EVs). Their advanced carbon fiber body kit solutions improve vehicle speed, stability, and efficiency. Though initially seen as aesthetic upgrades, ADRO's functional body kits are set to gain widespread adoption, especially with the rise of EVs.
The newly secured funding will support ADRO's expansion into the rapidly growing EV market, where the emphasis on energy efficiency aligns seamlessly with the company's expertise. In addition to expanding its body kit product lineup, ADRO plans to leverage the investment to further develop its Aero Optimization System (AOS), a specialized software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for aerodynamic optimization.
"The support and confidence from our investors reinforce our dedication to transforming the automotive market with cutting-edge aerodynamic technology," said Seunghyun Sean Yoon, CEO of ADRO. "This investment will propel our efforts to develop our product offerings further, expand our market reach, and solidify our position as a global leader in aerodynamic engineering."
In addition to the equity financing, ADRO also received 1.5 billion KRW (approximately 1 million USD) from the First Penguin Program by the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT). The First Penguin Program is a strategic initiative designed to support high-potential startups with groundbreaking ideas and technologies. It targets early-stage companies under five years old, aiming to foster their growth into global market leaders and potential unicorns.
ADRO's success is rooted in its Formula 1 heritage and OEM automotive design expertise. Leading the charge are key team members such as Scott Beeton, Chief Technology Officer, with distinctions in race car aerodynamics and F1 experience, and Davis Yongwon Lee, Chief Design Officer, renowned for designing the Mercedes Benz Maybach Vision 6 Concept Car.
"We are excited to partner with ADRO as they continue to innovate and drive the adoption of aerodynamic technology in the automotive industry," said a spokesperson from K2 Investment Partners. "Their unique blend of aerodynamic engineering principles and automotive design expertise positions them as a key player in shaping the future of mobility, especially during this period of rapid EV adoption."
